Monel 400 Pipe

Monel 400 Pipe

Monel 400 pipe is a robust nickel-copper alloy (around 67% Ni, 30% Cu) known for exceptional corrosion resistance, especially in marine environments, acids, and alkalis, offering excellent strength from sub-zero to high temperatures (up to 1000°F) and toughness. It’s used in demanding applications like chemical processing, oil & gas, heat exchangers, and seawater systems, available in various forms (seamless, welded, round, square) and conditions (annealed, pickled) to meet stringent industry standards (ASTM B165, UNS N04400).

Key Properties of
Monel 400 Pipe

Monel 400 pipe primarily consists of nickel (minimum 63%) and copper (maximum 34%), with trace amounts of iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon.
It exhibits excellent corrosion resistance against seawater, reducing acids, and alkalis.
Combining high strength and toughness, it maintains performance under extreme temperatures.
It can only be hardened through cold working and cannot be hardened by heat treatment.

FAQs About Monel 400 Pipe

Monel 400 tubing maintains excellent performance in various corrosive environments, particularly in seawater. This nickel-copper alloy exhibits a low and stable corrosion rate (maximum 0.03 mm per year),whereas other metals are prone to pitting or rapid corrosion in such environments.

Monel 400 is optimized for extreme corrosion in marine and acidic environments.Stainless steel,on the other hand, emphasizes oxidation resistance and structural strength.Monel 400 offers superior long-term durability in saltwater and highly corrosive chemicals, but it is also more expensive.

Monel 400 is generally considered to be non-magnetic or weakly magnetic at room temperature, but its magnetic properties vary significantly. When cold-worked or cooled below its lower Curie point,it typically becomes slightly magnetic; above this temperature,it loses its magnetic properties.
