Seamless Incoloy 800 Pipe
Seamless Incoloy 800 Pipe is a high-performance,nickel-iron-chromium alloy piping solution specifically engineered for environments involving extreme heat and corrosive elements.
Unlike Welded Incoloy 800 Pipe, it is manufactured from a single solid cylindrical billet that is pierced and elongated, resulting in a continuous, uniform structure without a weld seam.

Seamless Incoloy 800 Pipe Chemical Composition (%)
| Ni | Cr | Fe | C | Mn |
| 30.0 – 35.0 | 19.0 – 23.0 | 39.5 Min | ≤ 0.10 | ≤ 1.50 |
| S | Si | Cu | Al | Ti |
| ≤ 0.015 | ≤ 1.0 | ≤ 0.75 | 0.15 – 0.60 | 0.15 – 0.60 |
Does the chemical composition vary depending on the manufacturing standards?
They are essentially identical.ASTM B407 (U.S. standard) and DIN 17459 (German standard, material grade 1.4876) have identical requirements for the percentage of core elements, ensuring global material interchangeability.
Seamless Incoloy 800 Pipe Mechanical Properties(Typical value range)
| Tensile Strength | Yield strength | Elongation | Hardness |
| 520 – 720 MPa | 205 – 450 MPa | 30% – 45% | 70 – 85 HRB |
Does the strength of Incoloy 800 decrease significantly at high temperatures?
Incoloy 800 was specifically designed to maintain mechanical stability at high temperatures. It retains good tensile strength even at temperatures up to 1100°F (593°C).Above this temperature,it is generally recommended to use 800H or 800HT instead,as they offer better creep strength.
Does the wall thickness of the pipe affect these mechanical properties?
Yes.Generally speaking, the strength values of thin-walled pipes (cold-drawn) tend to be toward the upper end of the typical range, while those of large-diameter,thick-walled pipes (hot-rolled) are closer to the minimum values specified in the standard.

Manufacturing Process for Seamless Incoloy 800 Pipe
The manufacturing process for seamless Incoloy 800 pipe is a highly precise operation, typically involving hot extrusion or rotary piercing combined with cold working to ensure the material’s high-temperature performance and microstructural uniformity.
Melting & Casting
Raw Material Preparation:
Precisely blend nickel (30–35%),chromium (19–23%),and iron.
Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) + AOD Refining:
Remove impurities and precisely control trace elements such as carbon, aluminum, and titanium.
Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) / Electroslag Remelting (ESR):
For high-performance seamless pipes,ESR remelting is typically used to achieve extremely high purity and a uniform microstructure, thereby reducing segregation.
Billet Preparation
The ingots are forged or rolled into solid round billets.
The billets are cut to length, drilled with centering holes, and surface-cleaned.
Hot Working
Heating:
The steel billets are heated to 1150–1200°C in a ring furnace.
Hot Extrusion:
Due to the high yield strength of Incoloy 800,a glass-lubricated extrusion process is typically used to force the billet through a die and mandrel, forming a rough pipe(mother hollow).
Rotary Piercing:
A piercing machine may also be used to penetrate the center using rolling force;however, the extrusion method produces a denser microstructure.
Cold Working
Cold Drawing:
Pulling the pipe through a die to reduce its diameter and wall thickness.
Cold Pilger Rolling:
Reducing wall thickness through reciprocating rolling;this method allows for greater deformation and results in extremely tight dimensional tolerances.
Heat Treatment
Solution Annealing:
Between and after cold working operations, the pipe must be annealed at 980–1050°C to relieve internal stresses and ensure complete dissolution of carbides.
Note:For 800H/HT grades, the annealing temperature is higher (above 1150°C) to promote grain growth.
Finishing
Pickling:
Removes scale formed during heat treatment and creates a passivation film.
Straightening:
Ensures the pipe’s straightness meets standards.
Cutting:
Cuts the pipe to the required length.
Testing & Inspection
Non-destructive testing (NDT):
Eddy current testing (ET) or ultrasonic testing (UT) to detect internal cracks.
Hydrostatic Test:
To verify the pipeline’s leak-tightness under high pressure.
Performance Testing:
Sampling for tensile testing, hardness testing, and chemical composition verification.
