Manufacturing Process for Hastelloy C276 Square Tubing

The manufacturing process for Hastelloy C276 square tubes draws upon standard circular tube production techniques (seamless or welded),followed by a forming stage to achieve the square shape,and concludes with the necessary solution annealing treatment.

Seamless Hastelloy C276 Square Tubing

High-purity raw materials (nickel,chromium,molybdenum,etc.) are melted in an electric arc furnace,followed by refining processes such as argon-oxygen decarburization (AOD) to achieve precise UNS N10276 composition.
Solid alloy billets are heated and pierced using a mandrel press or vertical hydraulic piercing machine to form hollow tube blanks.
Hollow blanks undergo further processing via hot extrusion,cold drawing,or cold rolling to achieve the required dimensions.
Round tubing is then passed through a series of forming dies or rollers to create the final square or rectangular profile.
The tubes are heated to high temperatures (approximately 2050°F or 1121°C) and rapidly quenched in water.This process restores the alloy’s optimal corrosion resistance and ductility after cold or hot working.
Finished square tubes undergo straightening,acid pickling (acid cleaning),and extensive non-destructive testing (such as ultrasonic or hydrostatic testing) to ensure quality and integrity.

Welding Hastelloy C276 Square Tubing

Unroll and flatten Hastelloy C276 plate or coil stock.
Progressively roll the flat strip into a circular tube shape,then perform longitudinal welding,typically using electric resistance welding (ERW) or other conventional welding methods suitable for nickel alloys.The low carbon content of Hastelloy C276 minimizes grain boundary precipitation during welding,allowing it to be used as-welded in many applications.
The welded circular tubes undergo dimensional adjustment and are processed through forming rolls to create a square cross-section.
Although the alloy’s low carbon content aids welding,post-forming annealing is recommended to ensure maximum corrosion resistance,particularly in severe environments.
Similar to the seamless process,the final product requires cleaning,straightening,and various tests to meet quality standards.
